If it has more than three chords, it's jazz.

Well I don't know that I agree with Lou, but at least he's always got something to say.

Played a couple of songs from the CD "Walk On The Wild Side: The Best of Lou Reed" and asked if any of the students knew who it was. I was somewhat heartened by the fact that one student yelled out The Velvet Underground. While not 100% correct I did give him part marks! I was however somewhat dismayed that no one actually knew it was Lou.

Are there really no good new songs....

or alternatively, is the typical audience of CBC Radio One a bunch of aging baby boomers?

Recently switched from listening to a Vancouver news/talk station in the mornings back to CBC Radio One. One show, The National Playlist, has panel members making pitches for songs to be included in a national "top ten" list that changes based on audience feedback.

Anyhow, the top ten list this week is composed of a couple of new songs (with release dates this century) but the average age of the top ten songs is 18.5 years. Does this not tell you something about CBC's demographics?

Anyhow, check out The National Playlist if you're near a radio in the late mornings.
