Sometimes It Doesn't Pay To Check Your Mail

Well after getting home from one of my worst performances on the 9-hole course up the hill in a long time (played with Funkydude and his dad) decided to check my mail.

Awaiting me in there were two wonderful documents:

First a quarterly statement from my investment group (I only lost 4% last quarter!!) and not to be outdone a summons for jury duty for late August (around the time I think that they might be starting to look for jurors for the Pickton trial)!

For my next trick, I'll try and get out of jury duty

Maybe I'll wait until next week to check for more good news.

Tell the jury screeners what Jim Rome was going to tell them if he got called last month.

Tell them that if a guy's got as far as getting to court for something, no matter what the charge, he's got to be guilty of something. LOCK HIM UP!!!

Oh man, the Picton trial, Patches on the jury, write a book, make a million or twelve and no more 8hrs a week for the Doc. I say get on, and get at er. They'll probably dismiss you anyways, aren't jurists always houswives and plumbers. Never heard of a PhD in psych serving.

I think guilty people opt for trial by jury, as people tend to be more susceptible to manipulation than a judge. If a person isn't guilty, they should let the judge decide. He/she knows what to do.

That being said, I don't think Geo is likely to pass selection as he is not the average citizen. I've heard of a few profs getting called in for jury duty, but none pass the selection.

I am not up on my canadian law. (I have three lawyers in the family). Does the accuesed actually get a choice. I thought it was always the nature of the crime, the scope of the trial that dictated that aspect.

I will have to check into that.
