Are there really no good new songs....

or alternatively, is the typical audience of CBC Radio One a bunch of aging baby boomers?

Recently switched from listening to a Vancouver news/talk station in the mornings back to CBC Radio One. One show, The National Playlist, has panel members making pitches for songs to be included in a national "top ten" list that changes based on audience feedback.

Anyhow, the top ten list this week is composed of a couple of new songs (with release dates this century) but the average age of the top ten songs is 18.5 years. Does this not tell you something about CBC's demographics?

Anyhow, check out The National Playlist if you're near a radio in the late mornings.

The National Playlist is a great show. I usually don't agree with most of the panelists choices, but you always hear some good new stuff.

The reason there's such an old average is that each panelist pitches 2 songs, a contemporary pick and an all-time pick. Most all-time picks are from the 60s or 70s. Damned fools.
